Welcome To AutoFaves

Faves IconWelcome to my new blog!

I’ve created this blog as an experiment in social media.

This is the second blog that I created as an experiment, the first, Coffee With Allan Cockerill, was created in response to being told that a blog about a large range of topics wouldn’t work, and definitely wouldn’t attract a good page rank from Google.

With 18 categories, and over 200 posts to date, the site has received up to 20,000 visitors in one day, and sent me scurrying to upgrade my hosting account a couple of times!

Started in mid September, 2007, the blog had attained a page rank of 1 by the end of November, and has a PR 3 as of today (April 22. 2008).

This was achieved without any paid advertising, and relied on using what I have managed to learn about Search Engine Optimization, and social networking!

I wouldn’t say that it has been easy, having made a point of trying to make a post each day since January 1, 2008, on top of a number of other projects.

Allan Cockerill's Facebook profileMy main networking activities were concentrated on Facebook, as well as on Myspace.

Faves, Del.icio.us, Digg, Mixx and Twitter also played a part. I joined a host of other social bookmarking sites as well, but have to admit that I didn’t really give them much attention - there’s only so much time in each day, and one does tend to need to eat and sleep occasionally!

The site that brought in the most traffic was Stumbleupon, and I learned a lot from Teeg about the site.

The jury is still out regarding the profit to be gained from Social Media traffic, and I have to admit that I dislike too much marketing with my socializing.

Apart from that, people that I’ve met in social networking circles tend to want to network back, and unless webmasters and bloggers are prepared to accept that, and work with it, there really isn’t much use in being involved in it!

Facebook IconOther projects that I am working on include a website built in partnership with a former racing car driver, and social networking discovery site.

If you would like to join me in my quest, the easiest place to start is by adding me as a friend on Facebook. Click on my Facebook photo above to go to my public profile.

When you add me as a friend, include a note saying how you found me.

I can also be found on any of the social networking sites mentioned here. My user name on all of them is ‘Ozegold’!
